ERC PUBLIC HEARING IN ILIGAN CITY, JAN. 13, 2011 (Segment 1)

Iligan City - The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) conducted a public hearing on power rate increase on January 13, 2011, at the HRM Building, St. Michael's College, this city. The public hearing was presided by ERC Commissioner Rauf Tan. The Iligan Light and Power, Inc. (ILPI) of Iligan City, has petitioned for another round of power rate increase for the year 2012 at 39.99 centavos per kwh exclusive on generating and transmission costs. The Lanao Power Consumers' Federation (LAPOCOF), chaired by its President, Dr. Melchie Ambalong and theEnergy Committee of the Sangguniang Panglunsod of Iligan City, chaired by Councilor Moises Dalisay, Jr., were the interveners in opposition to the petitioner. Engr. Bert Oller, the Senior Technical expert of LAPOCOF in his argument stated that the ILPI petition should conform and to follow completely the procedures set by the ERC. Oller said that ILPI in their petition did not complied procedures set by the ERC. He said the ILPI should follow the maximum average price annual adjustment (MAPAA) based on the actual data on the utilization of total power used and the corresponding revenue generated. However, series of meetings and dialogues held between the LAPOCOF and ILPI to discuss the ERC compliance, but still the ILPI keep mum to follow the ERC procedures on power rate increase petition, the basic reason why until this time the petition still undecided by the ERC.
