The fire started at around 5:00 P.M. on 20th May 2013 and ended at around 2:00 A.M. on 24th May 2013. It's a 4-day feasted fire which caused massive destruction in the coastal areas in the Barangays on the Northern part of the City. The oil spill will formed oil cake and float after burning. As soon as it submerged in seawater in few hours, the oil cake will sink under the seawater. It was observed that it absorbed more salt that caused of the sink. Fisheries volunteers in their study of the oil spill said that it will cause to deplete oxygen from water. This will be reason that marine species in the localities will transfer to other places to survive. This problem was manifested by the fisherfolks in the area because they observed after the Granex fire they din't have fish catch anymore. The  fisherfolks in these Barangays are now in hunger. They are awaiting response from the government to provide temporary relief for their survival and let the Granex oil company answer all the liabilities on the environmental destruction made out of the oil spill form from fire blaze.
